The legacy continues…

The 9th ATMOsphere annual International Conference on Natural Refrigerants, held in Japan, will be a two-day event taking place in-person on Day 1 and online on Day 2.

ATMOsphere APAC Summit’s mission is to highlight the existence of the latest natural refrigerant technologies for various applications, both environmentally friendly and profitable for the commercial and industrial refrigeration, and air conditioning industries. 

By demonstrating that it is feasible, we aim to promote and accelerate the spread of natural refrigerant technology in markets such as Asia, North America, Europe, and other regions. 

Day 1: June 27, 2022 (Monday)

  • Venue: Tokyo Conference Center Shinagawa
  • Address: Area Shinagawa 3F-5F, 1-9-36 Konan, Minato-ku, Tokyo, Japan
  • In-person with a special focus on the Japanese NatRef market, in Japanese language.

Day 2: June 28, 2022 (Tuesday)

  • Venue: Online
  • Online, including strategic and visionary presentations, given by leading industry representatives on market trends in the APAC region. Sessions will be in English only.

Ms. Toyozumi is the Director of the Office of Fluorocarbons Control Policy, Global Environment Bureau at the Ministry of the Environment from September 2020. Since joining the Ministry of the Environment, her main fields of activity include air and water conservation, waste management, recycling, and climate change.

Honours degree in Mechanical Engineering from Melbourne University. Entered the refrigeration industry in 2001 as a rack design engineer for EPTA (Italy) and collaborated in the first transcritical CO2 projects being piloted in Europe. In 2004 worked for EPTA as an applications engineer in the export department and oversaw turn-key projects for key supermarket accounts in developing countries. In 2009 relocated to Sydney to work for Woolworths; firstly in the capacity of a refrigeration engineer focusing on devel- oping the showcase and refrigeration plant specifications, more recently in the role of innovations engineer and presently as the National Sustainable Innovations Manager.

Jan holds a Doctor of Engineering degree in System Design from Hosei University in Tokyo and a Master’s degree from the Czech Technical University in Prague. During his studies, and research undertaken in the USA, Europe and Japan, Jan has centered his academic focus on environmental technologies and marketing strategies. Having lived in Japan for over 13 years, Jan communicates fluently in Japanese and has a rich experience cooperating with Japanese industry. Jan is currently based in Tokyo, responsible for business/market development activities and monitoring Asian markets on behalf of ATMOsphere Japan. He is also the global COO for ATMOsphere (formerly shecco).

Jonathan is a refrigeration design engineer, with specialist experience in winery refrigeration , use of ammonia refrigerant and glycol secondary refrigerant systems . He is also working with supermarket refrigeration , particularly ALDI Australia to provide design , specification and review of their store refrigeration systems. He is also a member of the AIRAH Natural Refrigerants Special Technical Group, so along with his colleagues at ISECO , they promote the use of natural refrigerants where ever possible.

Mr. Harada is the president of Nihon Netsugen Systems; manufacturer of chillers and heat pump systems partnering with GEA Refrigeration Technology in Germany. Mr. Harada takes leadership in introducing European CO2 supermarket cooling systems to Japan. In addition, Nihon Netsugen Systems manufactures natural refrigerant products like ammonia and propane chiller systems. Mr. Harada holds Bachelor of Arts in Economics from Keio University, and Master of Arts in Economics from New York University. Prior to his current carrier, he worked as a journalist for the political division of NHK – Public TV Japan.

Mr. Shibata has been doing design works for Toyo Engineering Works Ltd. for 15 years. In 1998, he succeeded to develop the first package-type snowmaker in Japan, and he introduced the snowmaker to many Japanese customers in Japan. In 2003, he moved to Shibata Welding Constructions Co., (SWC). Now Mr. Shibata is the president of Shibata Welding Constructions Co., (SWC), a company of 59-years’ experience with refrigeration such as ice machines, cold rooms, and chillers. SWC has developed and released its CO2 TC-Booster system “Naturale series” in 2020. He also had been the CEO of CAREL Japan Co., Ltd. from 2013 to 2018, a joint-venture company founded in 2013 by CAREL Industries S.p.A. (Italy) and SWC. On 11 June 2021, Mr. Shibata received a letter of commendation from Japan Association of Refrigeration and Air-Conditioning Contractors (JARAC) as a recipient of a Distinguished Service Award.

Mr. Matsuda served as the General Manager of the Engineering Department within the Japan Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Industry Association (JRAIA). He graduated from the Nagoya University and jointed Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Co. Ltd in 1981. Mr. Matsuda has served as chief of three laboratories within MHI to help develop main components, which were compressors, heat-exchangers and fans for refrigeration and air conditioning systems. As Deputy General Manager of the Nagoya Research & Development Center of MHI, Mr. Matsuda contributed to making high efficiency systems until 2011. He is currently part of the Consortium for the Research Strategy of Next-generation Heat Pump Technology at Waseda University.

Makoto Ehara joined Mayekawa in 1987. He has been involved in thermal engineering in various fields such as cold store, fishing boats, and food factories. In recent years, as a food factory expert, he has been proposing new uses of heat pump technology in food production processes.

Founder of ATMOsphere a global, independent market accelerator with a mission to clean-up cooling. Marc Chasserot has 20 years of experience in the HVAC&R sector. His focus throughout those years has been with Natural Refrigerant based technologies used in Refrigeration, Heat Pumps and Air Conditioning applications. He has founded several industry platforms, namely; www.R744.com, www.hydrocarbons21.com, ammonia21.com, and Accelerate Magazine. Published numerous reports for industry and policy-makers, chaired over 70 ATMOsphere conferences worldwide. Marc has lived and worked in Asia, Europe and America. Marek Zgliczynski studied at the Turin Politechnic in Italy where he earned his degree in mechanical engineering. In 1979, after completing his degree, Marek began his career as a researcher and project leader of new product development at Aspera Spa. A few years later, Marek transitioned to Embraco, becoming the Manager of Compressor Design. His successful efforts led to many promotions, including European Commercial Product and Technology Manager, Commercial Refrigeration Product Corporate Director and Corporate Fellow Researcher for the Commercial Refrigeration Segment. Throughout his career, Marek has earned three U.S. patents and Gold Whirlpool Quality Team Award and he has published several pieces of literature for international conferences and events about refrigeration technology. In 2016, he was elected to a Chair of the IEC/SC61C Committee, in charge of the development of international product safety standards for refrigeration segment. He is also member in several other standardization bodies like ISO TC86/SC1/WG1, CEN TC182WG6 and WG12, IEC SC61DWG16 and UL STP471, Ashrae Member.

Masamitsu Ishibashi is the second generation president of Megumi Misaki Fisheries Co., Ltd. founded in 1968. He was appointed President and Representative Director in April 2020. He is a fish food specialist. Based in Misaki Fishing Port, he processes and sells fresh fish and marine products such as tuna. He overseas export business and purchases to countries in Asia, North America and the Middle East, and management of 4 directly managed restaurants in Singapore. Aiming to be a sustainable tuna wholesaler, energy problems toward RE100 conversion of in-house power consumption, Megumi Misaki Fisheries Co., Ltd. also works on the construction of a next-generation tuna connoisseur AI TUNE SCOPE system in collaboration with Dentsu.

Trade qualified Matthew held numerous senior roles before founding Technicool refrigeration and the New Zealand agency for Arneg SPA – Arneg New Zealand. After seeing the opportunity to lead development in natural refrigerant technology Matthew established EcoChill, which for over 20 years has delivered highly efficient and sustainable systems to become trusted advisors to companies such as Fonterra, Turners & Growers and Foodstuffs. EcoChill’s commitment to natural refrigerant solutions has seen them lead the development of Hydrocarbon systems in New Zealand and deliver many technology installation firsts, including NZ’s first transcritical CO2 system, first waterloop system, first CO2 parallel compression installation and New Zealand’s largest cooling Hydrocarbon system solution. Matthew oversaw the merger of RACCA & HVAC Contractors to form the industry body Climate Controls Companies Association of New Zealand in 2011 and has advised on regulatory and compliance considerations for national change programs such as the HFC phase down and the current industry licensing regime. He is committed to developing quality and professionalism within the industry and supporting New Zealand to deliver clean, sustainable cooling.

He spent 20 years of his career as the national sales and marketing manager for CAREL South Africa while gaining international experience with CAREL’s world wide network. Stefan Jensen graduated in 1978 in Denmark with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering. His professional career commenced in 1978 with Danfoss in Denmark followed by two years at SABROE Refrigeration A/S also in Denmark as a Project Engineer. In 1983, he joined Wildridge & Sinclair in Brisbane, Australia, as Technical Manager in Industrial Refrigeration. He later became co-inventor of the Rotadisk flake ice maker. In 1988 he joined the food machinery manufacturer Heat and Control Pty. Ltd. and was in 1992 appointed General Manager of the Heat and Control Refrigeration Division. In April 1996, Stefan co-founded Scantec Refrigeration Technologies. He currently holds the position of Managing Director. Stefan is a Fellow of AIRAH and an Engineers Australia Fellow. He is a registered Professional Engineer in Queensland and also included in the National Engineering Register. He has authored over 40 technical papers for AIRAH, IIR and IIAR conferences, and is a member of the Board of Directors of the International Institute of Ammonia Refrigeration (IIAR) in Washington, USA. Stefan is a member of the scientific committee for the 8th International Ammonia and CO2 Refrigeration Technologies conference to be held in Ohrid, Macedonia in April, 2019.
