Alan Pears AM has worked on clean energy and climate policy for four decades. His activities span all sectors of the economy, and include policy and program development, education and site level projects. He is a Senior Industry Fellow at RMIT University and a fellow at Melbourne University’s Climate and Energy College. Over the past few years he has worked with the Australian Alliance for Energy Productivity on industrial innovation, with a focus on process heat and high temperature heat pumps.

Davina is a property professional with a broad range of sustainability experience, from environmental projects, not-for profit boards and overseas community development work, spending 8 months working in the Indian Himalayas on the construction of a school which won multiple international awards. Career highlights include a decade at Stockland which was a global leader in sustainability and therefore understands how the GBCA’s global leadership translates into real-world outcomes. Stockland was recognised in 2016 and 2018 simultaneously holding the Dow Jones Sustainability Index Global Property leader, GRESB Global leader (Retail/Office) and recognised on the CDP Leaders A-list. During his studies, and research undertaken in the USA, Europe and Japan, Jan has centered his academic focus on environmental technologies and marketing strategies. Having lived in Japan for over 13 years, Jan communicates fluently in Japanese and has a rich experience cooperating with Japanese industry. Jan is currently based in Tokyo, responsible for business/market development activities and monitoring Asian markets on behalf of ATMOsphere Japan. He is also the global COO for ATMOsphere (formerly shecco).

Trade qualified Matthew held numerous senior roles before founding Technicool refrigeration and the New Zealand agency for Arneg SPA – Arneg New Zealand. After seeing the opportunity to lead development in natural refrigerant technology Matthew established EcoChill, which for over 20 years has delivered highly efficient and sustainable systems to become trusted advisors to companies such as Fonterra, Turners & Growers and Foodstuffs. EcoChill’s commitment to natural refrigerant solutions has seen them lead the development of Hydrocarbon systems in New Zealand and deliver many technology installation firsts, including NZ’s first transcritical CO2 system, first waterloop system, first CO2 parallel compression installation and New Zealand’s largest cooling Hydrocarbon system solution. Matthew oversaw the merger of RACCA & HVAC Contractors to form the industry body Climate Controls Companies Association of New Zealand in 2011 and has advised on regulatory and compliance considerations for national change programs such as the HFC phase down and the current industry licensing regime. He is committed to developing quality and professionalism within the industry and supporting New Zealand to deliver clean, sustainable cooling.

As one of only seven New Zealand women with the HVAC&R qualification, Megan Dinsdale-Jones has over 12 years in the industry. After completing her apprenticeship, she began working in supermarket refrigeration for a reputable company, and then furthered her experience with another large supermarket supplier, working with transcritical CO2 refrigeration, commissioning supermarket racks and gaining valuable hands on experience with controls and different systems. This included carrying out usual service-tech duties, as well as fully commissioning transcritical CO2 plants, cabinets and controllers, including RDM, Emerson and Carel. In 2020, Megan moved on to become a sales engineer with Patton Refrigeration in Auckland. Megan also has recently decided to add to her work load by studying towards a Bachelor of Business via Massey University New Zealand.

Michael is the CEO of the Minus40 Group of companies, which includes the exciting new IoT startup company, Metis Monitoring, providing cutting edge remote monitoring and predictive fault detection technology to the refrigeration and air-conditioning industries. The Minus40 Group also includes the established refrigeration consulting firm Minus40 Engineers, well known for their services in the refrigeration and air-conditioning sector. Michael is a frequent public speaker and educator in these and related areas and recently conducted a series of Refrigeration Masterclasses in Victoria. Minus40 has helped many companies across Australia reduce their energy bills by improving the energy efficiency of their existing heating and cooling systems, and advises companies on the best technical and commercial options for new installations.

Having worked in the HVAC industry for over 25 years, Michael has held senior management positions with operational, engineering and sales responsibilities with a number of major companies in the mechanical and industrial HVAC market. Within the industry Michael has worked in government and private enterprise across a broad range of industry sectors including building maintenance and system design through to air conditioning manufacturing. Skilled in the sales, marketing and engineering of energy efficient HVAC solutions he has a strong focus on peak cooling demand reduction and energy efficiency. Michael is employed by Seeley International as General Manager of Commercial Sales, Australia’s largest air conditioning manufacturer and a global leader in the development of ingenious, energy efficient heating and cooling products.

Michael manages projects with a focus on reducing carbon emissions from cities, encompassing buildings, infrastructure, transport and energy sectors. Michael has strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills with a proven track record in translating research into sustainability advice for business and government. He managed the technical analysis, stakeholder facilitation, content delivery and publication of Built to Perform, a landmark initiative led by ClimateWorks and the Australian Sustainable Built Environment Council to strengthen minimum energy standards for new buildings. Prior to joining ClimateWorks, Michael worked as a sustainability consultant at global integrated services firm AECOM. Michael Li holds Bachelor’s degrees in engineering and science from the University of Melbourne and a Master’s degree in sustainable development from the University of Cambridge. In 2014 Michael was recognised by collaborative sustainability community 2degrees as one of the global “Top 25 Under 25s” transforming the world of sustainable business, and he was named Young Energy Efficiency Professional 2018 at the National Energy Efficiency Awards.

Michael joined Australia’s leading food retailer in 2013 and is responsible for managing the energy and resource recovery teams within Woolworths portfolio of +2,500 sites. This includes the full cycle of energy contracting, energy optimisation, waste and cardboard recycling and a multitude of sustainability related initiatives within the Group. The ecosystem within Woolworths sees him working with internal engineering and technical field teams towards reducing the company’s carbon emissions as part of their sustainability commitments which include transitioning towards natural refrigerants across their fleet of stores. With over 20 years experience in most facets of the energy industry, Michael has broad experience gained through multiple roles in sales, customer service, business improvement and technical disciplines for two of Australia’s largest energy retailers.

Thomas holds a MSc. in Mechanical Engineering and an executive certificate in Sustainable Finance, and has experience designing, developing and implementing public and private finance mechanisms for sustainable energy projects. Currently Thomas is leading the global Cooling as a Service Initiative aiming to develop and scale up the use of servitisation business models for the refrigeration and air-conditioning sector, transferring physical energy assets into services.

Ura has been working in the Technical Services Industry servicing clients in the commercial and industrial sectors since 2000. She’s worked for global technology manufacturers like McQuay in Dubai, Trane (Dalkia) and Johnson Controls in Australia. She also has worked in the sustainability sector to gain a more holistic understanding of building management and energy efficiency. Ura currently is the Country Leader, Integrated Technologies, Digital Solutions at Johnson Controls. She’s responsible for leading a team to facilitate the digital transformation of Johnson Controls’ existing and future client asset base across Australia and New Zealand. Ura has a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering and a master’s degree in management from Macquarie Graduate School of Management (MGSM). She’s also a board director of the Australian Institute of Refrigeration, Air Conditioning and Heating (AIRAH).
